In 2006, we formed Uturn with the desire to tell the people of Pembroke, especially the young people, about the hope that we have found.
We plan on presenting this through modern worship music, drama, live interviews, testimonies, and guest speakers. We hope to address some of the most talked about issues that young people face today.
There are many titles that describe us: Christians, Born Again Believers, Evangelicals – but if these terms mean little to you, we are a group of people who are striving daily to follow Jesus.
We are called Uturn because we know that all of us are headed in the wrong direction in life. We all think and act in ways that go against how God wants us to live. Essentially, this is like living in rebellion to the only King who has lasting authority over our lives. In the Bible, God calls this rebellion sin and warns that the consequence of sin is death – eternal life separated from Him. That’s the wrong direction we are headed in if we are living with out Jesus.
But because of what Jesus did, we have incredible hope! Because of God’s amazing grace, Jesus died in our place. He has saved us from the punishment we deserved, and so we rightly call Him “Saviour”. He didn’t save us so we could go right back to living the way we once did. That was rebellion – the wrong direction. He saved us so we could live in a right relationship with God – with Him as the King and us as His people. For all of us, that means living life in a completely new direction. This change in life is the Uturn we are talking about! It is only possible because Jesus has saved us and it is only liveable by striving daily to follow Jesus.
There is even more hope because we don’t just strive on our own strength. Jesus has promised to give His followers the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen us.
Through this relationship, we have a Guide who will lead us to the answers of life’s most important questions. He will lead us to Jesus, who amazingly has called Himself the Truth. Also, He gives us hope because He has promised to always be with us, even in our moments of doubt and hurt and fear.
We hope to give anyone who attends Uturn a clearer picture of who Jesus is and what it really means to live for Him.
