National winner of So You Think You Can Dance Canada*, David Doner and his dance partner from the Dutch Reformed Church in Renfrew, surprised those gathered at Uturn in Festival Hall with their fancy footwork. While the all expense trip to Hawaii is currently unavailable, they walked away with the next best thing: free T-shirts donated from Master's Way, Pembroke's local Christian book store.

* If all of this sounds like utter nonsense, that's 'cause it is.

Festival Hall was filled with many guests from as far away as Owen Sound, Ontario. A large group of students from Word of Life Bible Institute joined friends from Pembroke for the evening.

Crystal, one of the visiting students who is originally from Pembroke, told us how her life has changed since turning to Jesus. She boldly shared her story, briefly telling us about life before meeting Jesus and also about how she became a follower of Jesus.  Through her friendship with Annina, Crystal learned that Jesus has forgiven her for her past rebellion. There were many things that she never realized about God’s design for us.  She shared about what she is learning from 2 Corinthians 5:17, that “if anyone is in Christ, he [or she] is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come”.  She said that being a Christian isn’t easy--that it’s a daily struggle--but because of God’s power, she has experienced Him working in her life and, in her words, "this has blown my mind”.

The Uturn band once again proficiently played easily singable songs like One Way, You Shine, and Blessed Be Your Name. The words of some of these songs are incredible. Some of them hold truths about God, like Faithful One. This song considers the wonder of God's unchanging character. Because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we can always depend on Him. Other songs hold truths about us. For example, the second verse of Created says:

"If we don't worship You
We'll search for substitutes
To fill the void in our soul
Worshipping other things
Destroys our liberty
But as we praise You
We are free
"

The drama team gave us a rare view of a common bus stop. We were given a sneak peak into the presence of cell-phone carrying angels and demons, in a comic yet thought provoking style that may have reminded others of C.S. Lewis's Screwtape Letters. The angel encouraged one women at the bus stop tell another woman about Jesus and to pray for that she would be able to listen. The two ladies had known each other for a long time but had never really talked about the deeper questions of life. While that morning at the bus stop probably felt like every other morning for these ladies, the angel knew that time for one of the ladies was quickly running out.

Randy shared some input from his life experience and from the Bible.  He shared about the death and resurrection of Jesus and about the different responses of the criminals who were crucified with Him.  Read more about it in Luke 23.
