The first official Uturn event started before most people would have been aware.  Band members, the drama team, tech support, and other friends gathered behind the stage to pray for their involvement and for the people who would be coming.  Many people filled the seats of Festival Hall, but there is still room for more.

The band of seven skilfully played contemporary songs such as, Blessed Be Your Name, Everyday, Everlasting, and None But Jesus.  The keyboardist was incredible – it was wonderful to hear her sing.  Words were projected on a large screen so people could sing along with the band.  Many of the songs were obviously well known by the people who came out.  I remember one moment when the singing of the people who were jumping around behind me was louder than the band.  It was a lot of fun.

The MC, Chris, kept the event fun by involving the people, even giving away prises from the nearby Kläsis Bakery.

Kelly shared about the choices she has had to make to follow Jesus.  This is part of the event that tries to answer some of the life questions that we all face.  Kelly has chosen to follow Jesus, so how does that affect the choices she makes?  What type of friendships will she invest in?  What activities will she be involved in?

The drama was powerful.  Everyone who came out listened and watched intently as the four actors mimed out a story set to music.  I remember, after the event, a few girls came to the front of the room and asked Annina what the skit was all about.  Annina took the chance to explain the meaning of the skit to these girls.  Three of the actors portrayed people that might remind you of someone you know: people who are dependant on drugs, people who are physically hurt, and people who are either physically or spiritually blind.  The fourth actor, representing Jesus, healed each of these people – but as he healed them, he took upon himself their troubles, even taking their greatest trouble by dying on the cross for them.  The other actors, slowly realizing what had taken place, turned to the actor representing Jesus and bowed at his feet.

Ernie gave some input from his own life experience and from his knowledge of what the Bible says about life and God and all of us.  This was another section in the event where we desire to talk about issues that the youth in Pembroke face on a daily basis.
