What comes to your mind when you think of FREEDOM? War movies like Independence Day or Braveheart? Maybe it’s something simpler, like getting a car or getting out of your parents' house. The truth is, Canada is wonderfully free. It’s a place where we do not typically even have to think about freedom, let alone captivity.
On Saturday, January 19th 2008, people got together at Festival Hall for some music, friends and yup, freedom. But freedom from what? The band played a new song, Undone, from Mercy Me. Check out the words:

No apologies for who I’m meant to be
The only thing that matters is – I am free
When I am overwhelmed, holding pieces of my heart
When I feel my world start to fall apart
To the cross I run
Holding high my chains undone
Now I am finally free
Free to be what I’ve become
Undone
Bart Millard wrote those words, but what does he mean? The drama team did two great skits. The first one didn’t exactly answer our question; it was about some crazy farmers and chicken planting—very fun. The second skit showed different people in chains. They weren’t prisoners in a jail or anything. They were held in the chains of different things in life—things like addiction to drugs and alcohol, but also things that many of us wouldn’t think about, like being over worked in business or abusive relationships. Each person tried to take off their own chains, but they held fast. Only Jesus could remove their chains.
Later, Rob told us about some of the captivity he has faced in his life—from literal jails to eternal chains. The good news is, Rob has found freedom! He knows that the chains that held him captured in darkness have been undone. He has been set free by Jesus Christ—free to be what he’s become—a child of God. Really! The Bible promises those who believe on Jesus, that “He [God] has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13-14). In Jesus you can have FREEDOM!
